Brain Development in Early Years

Haven’t you ever noticed that kids always ask a lot of questions and have a quest to learn things? They are curious about everything. Yes, the brain development takes place even before the birth and till the age of three very fastly. The first 8 years of their life can build a foundation for future learning, health and life success. Hence, we must be very careful about their first 8 years. Their brain development totally depends on quality care which is in a healthy and safe environment and therefore it should be the number one priority of parents and teachers. Child care that stimulates and encourages your child’s physical, intellectual, emotional and social growth must be looked forward to.

Early childhood experiences are very important for their brain development as they are born ready to learn and acquire many skills gradually over the years ahead. Hence, if they are exposed to stress and trauma that will result in negative consequents for the child’s brain and therefore they must be provided with a healthy environment through talking, reading and playing which will stimulate their brain growth. The foundation of brain development is always social and emotional development which is rooted in caring relationships.

Genes do play a considerable role in the development of a child’s brain. But, in addition to genes there are certain factors that are significant in the same:

  • Proper nutrition since the beginning of pregnancy
  • Exposure to toxins and infections
  • The child’s experience with people outside and the world.

A child’s age should be kept in mind before designing programmes for him/her to best meet their needs. Properly understanding what makes your child feel at ease and peace and getting to know those activities that amuse your child and what all things your child learn on own will make possible your best childcare decision.

Four cognitive stages of childhood development as identified by Jean Piaget:

  • Sensor motor Stage – birth to about 2 years.
  • Preoperational stage – ages 2-7
  • Concentrate Operational Stage – ages 7-11
  • Formal Operational Stage – ages 11 & older

Early childhood education through specialized preschools/playschools hence is an essential need for children as they help in the brain development of children. Basic language, communication, foundational numeracy, motor development, social skills, physical development and cognitive development oriented activities, classes, lessons and workshops are provided in the suitable manner according to the age and grasping power of kids without putting them on stress but through absolute fun and entertainment.

Pandemic has brought the preschools and playschools to a standstill in giving classes through physical capacity. But many reputed preschools are conducting their classes and activities online by carefully curated durations that don’t take a toll on the health and well being of the kids.

The early years (0-8) are the best opportunity for a child’s brain to develop the connections that they need to be healthy, able, brilliant and successful adult humans. Take enough care during these years.

Let the kids grow smiling and fly high!
